About Me

I have to admit I am new to reading, this is my second year of reading (intensely). This blog is mainly for myself because I like having something to show for my passions.

I am just putting up my reviews, recommendations and other thoughts. Kind of like a journal, so then I can stop boring people who do not care about the entire plot of the book I just read.

Recommendations

To preface, the term ‘recommendations’ probably is not the right term. Mainly because I will not only put up books I like but also books, I dislike. Which is contradictory, but I feel like all books deserve a chance and I have found that a lot of people I know, have loved books I did not.

My Reading History

I have read sixty books so far this year. I have a goal of sixty-five but am not hellbent on completing that. But then part of me really wants to.

I predominantly read fiction but try to read a non-fiction alongside it. Not going particularly well considering I have read fifty-six fiction books and two non-fictions so far… I’m working on it.

My favourite genre is fantasy, as it is the genre that really got me into reading. I have grown to love horror surprisingly enough, as I originally disliked it (a lot). Typically, I read history if I am going for non-fiction but have been exploring other topics.

My Goals

My goals for reading this year,

  • Read more Asian fiction and non-fiction
  • Read more Classics

Currently on twenty-three Asian fiction, one non-fiction. I am aiming to learn more about Asian countries and culture, it has predominantly been Korea, Japan, China and Vietnam so far, hoping to expand soon.

Five classics so far, which isn’t great but is better than the fat zero I did last year.

My Book Beliefs

I have a couple philosophies when it comes to reading.

1. My first one is you can never really ‘hate’ a book.

For example, I originally ‘hated’ Babel by R.F Kuang, but then I would keep thinking back to parts of the book. Now I enjoy learning about etymology and the history of words.

2. Liking a book really depends on three things; your mindset, what you read prior and whether you were compatible with the authors writing style.

There have been a couple times where I have read books that are normally up my alley but have had to DNF (Did Not Finish) because the previous books I read were in the same genre.

I am sure more ideas will come to me, so more philosophies pending…
